Our flagship piece, the Shroud is a non-binary luxe hooded duster for all. Designed by Jen with grading support and design for manufacture by Lauren, it's both cozy and mysterious thanks to Jen's signature creative fabric shaping. Whether you're an urban explorer or a forest frolicker, the Shroud will keep you cocooned in a luxurious swirl of fabric. Each one is cut and made by hand in Why Sew Workshop's Pittsburgh studio, where the operators make a living wage and have health insurance.
Technical Specs: The Shroud variations are either made from our signature fabric, sustainably milled EcoVero viscose/nylon ponte, or a similar-quality dead stock saved from the landfill. Ponte and Knit variations all incorporate some amount of stretch.
The pattern is generously cut, which gives the garment a satisfying weight, drape, and twirl-ability (a technical term). In the photos, you'll see our masc model Kenzie (42" chest) wearing a Medium, and our femme model Lauren (50" chest) wearing a size Large. The Large also incorporates a pleat at the center back for a more generous fit (shown from the back on a dress form in grey). Our sizing is designed to be inclusive; if you have any questions about which size you should choose, please get in touch with us!
The hood and heavy-duty molded zipper are faced for a clean finish. The zipper itself is two-way, allowing for total control of the front opening. The sleeves of the Shroud are on the long side (our preference), and end in a unique thumbhole opening shaped to fit your whole palm (no more painful pinching on your thumb with a too-small opening).
These are made seasonally in small batches. Please email us if you don't see something you love!
